I started knitting Adamas on July 16th, 2008. If I had kept on knitting on that one project, I could have finished it earlier, but I’d go through phases with it. Some days I’d knit for hours, and other times I’d go for weeks without touching it. When I went to Calgary in September I didn’t take the shawl with me for fear it would get damaged on the way there or back, so that was another long chunk.
I made the shawl a little smaller than the pattern wanted, with a 62″ wingspan and 27″ spine after blocking (normally it’s 72/36). I like how it sits on me, though I’m probably not going to wear it that often. It’s going to be a decorative shawl mostly. I have an interview to teach ESL in Japan, on Nov 1st, and when/if I get to Japan it’s going to go on the wall in my apartment there.
I still have some of the yarn left, maybe 200 yards. While I love how the shawl turned out, I don’t love working with laceweight. This yarn in particular is Yarntopia Treasures Handpainted Tencel Laceweight 10-2, colourway Seaweed. It’s beautiful and soft, but also very skinny and doesn’t have any give. I think I might use up the rest held with another yarn so it’s thicker, not sure what project though.
When I went to block Adamas the first time, I had a plastic garbage bag sitting on top of a bed in the guest room, with a beach towel on top of that to lay the shawl on, and then many, many pins. I didn’t measure carefully the first time, and so one side came out a few inches longer. It takes the blocking well, I was surprised. So, I soaked the shawl again, just in warm water for 15 minutes, and this time pinned it out carefully, checking with a ruler each time.

That is so pretty!
Gorgeous!
I love it! Just beautiful.
