I’ve finished a couple of small things since my last post. One is a pair of gloves, the pattern is a mod of Urban Necessity from Magknits. They’re supposed to be a flip-top mitten, so that you can have fingerless gloves for when you need your fingers, and mittens for when you don’t, all in one. I just wanted a pair of gloves for driving, since I tried and failed to drive while wearing mittens. Not that I got into an accident or anything, but it was very uncomfortable.
I used Red Heart Super Saver in Painted Desert. I bought it hoping that it would be like Bernat Super Value, which is actually a fairly soft, though hardy, yarn, but no. This particular brand wasn’t nice to work with, and I only did a second glove because I actually needed gloves. I might make another pair with Vanna’s Choice yarn, of which I have a lot of leftovers from other projects. I started to make the tam in the pattern, too, but realized that it was working up way too big, and I was running out of yarn.
Secondly, I have some lilies:
That’s Sirdar Just Bamboo for the petals, which I love, though I only had one skein and there wasn’t much I could do with it. Soy/acrylic for the little stem on the inside, Lion Brand cotton-ease from the stem. There’s no wire in the stems, yet. I’m having a hard time finding some that’s strong enough. Right now, they’re sitting inside our wardrobe until I can find some, as I don’t really have any immediate use for them aside from decoration.
I did order the yarn that I wanted, from Webs, and I’ve been working on the Mesh Peplum Cardi-Blouse. The pattern’s been confusing me, but I’ve only had to frog a little a few times before getting it. The yarn is wonderful to work with, a beautiful deep blue and soft. I can’t machine wash, but since this is a top that I’ll be wearing over a camisole, I won’t have to wash it that often. I have the main body done, one sleeve, and 95% of the other sleeve. I also had to go up a full hook size from 4mm to 5mm to get gauge. I’m pretty sure that I have enough yarn, but just in case, I didn’t do the bottom part yet and planned to do the sleeves and button band first, since I can easily stop a few rows early on the bottom part if I have to.

I love the lilies, what pattern did you use?
It’s the The Good, the Gilded and the Goth from knitty.com http://knitty.com/ISSUEsummer06/PATTlilies.html I normally post the pattern in the entry, not sure how I missed it that time.
