I found this pattern while looking around on Ravelry and had to make it. It’s free, and can be found here: Elephante, (that link opens a pdf of the pattern).
I originally was going to do the stripes, and even crochet instead of knit on DPNs. I got 4 feet done, and they were working well structurally, but I didn’t like the colours. It wasn’t clicking. So I got some Red Heart Soft Touch in Pewter and knit on 4mm DPNs. As an aside, while the label on the yarn claims it’s worsted and that it can be knit on 5mm (8US needles), that’s a lie. You can knit it on those needles, but you won’t get a firm fabric, it will be way too loose, especially for stuffed toys.
There is some crochet in the project, for the ears. I didn’t get that you’re supposed to just sew the base on, not the whole thing (it’s pointed, like a <), so I wasn’t happy with how they looked after. I crocheted another 4 rounds on the outside edge.
She’s not very big (I have her sitting on my jewelry box), about 5.5″ high and 6.5″ long.

Aww, what a sweet elephant. Well done!
Thank you
